Why have my sails cleaned?

Cleaning extends the life of the sail. Our sail cleaning process removes salt buildup, green mildew and rust stains, and significantly brightens up the sail. It also removes the foul odors that commonly come from storing the sail. Our process reduces any black mildew; however, it does not remove it completely.

How are the sails cleaned?

The sail is cleaned using a unique process that has been proven successful time and again. It is lowered into a large vat filled with a special cleaning solution specifically formulated to restore the sail to its best condition. Once the sail is immersed, our high-speed pumps begin the cleaning process by circulating the solution into the sail material. Sails are not agitated during this process. The sail is rotated every 30 minutes to ensure that 100% of the sail has been completely cleansed. Depending on the soil and mildew content, the cleaning process time varies from 6 to 12 hours. After the sail is clean, it is thoroughly rinsed and hung on a spar until it is completely dry. Rust is then removed; highly rust marked sails will increase the price. Because of the attention and detail involved in cleaning a sail, the process normally takes two business days. 

Will the sail cleaning process harm my sail fittings?

No, absolutely not. As a matter of fact, the cleaning process will help loosen old fittings and lubricate them. Our cleaning solution has corrosion inhibitors and actually protects ‘D’ rings, SS cables, snap shackles, sail slides, etc. SCI Sail Cleaning ensures the best quality and workmanship on any design or repairs you might need for your sails.
