55 Point Preventative Service

You arrive at your boat with groceries, supplies, your family and guests, and it happens: your boat won’t start or another system is broken or malfunctioning!  If this situation sounds familiar, you now have the solution.

SCI Marine, Inc.’s 55-Point Monthly Preventative Maintenance service is a “must” and a proven  great value. It’s like having your own captain!

When was the last time you had your boat’s systems inspected by a trained marine technician?

With our preventative maintenance service, all of your vessel’s systems are run, the fluids are topped off and all miscellaneous items are checked on a monthly basis. We will notify you of any items not working, and together we will prepare a plan to repair those items.

This service gives the ultimate peace of mind and comfort, knowing all of your boat’s systems are working correctly and that your boat is safe and ready for use.

Please read our “Did you know” section and see the sample of our Monthly Preventative Maintenance Checklist.  Take advantage of this service to keep your vessel safe and hassle-free.

The following items are part of our Monthly Preventative Maintenance Program.

(This service is also available on a one-time basis.)

Did You Know…

  • Water pump impellers should be changed every 500 hours or two years?
  • Diesel lube oil must be changed every 100 hours? Old oil builds carbon that blocks the heat exchanger.
  • The majority of diesel engine damage is due to a lack of cooling system maintenance?
  • There are sacrificial zinc anodes in the heat exchanger?
  • Sea strainers must be cleaned regularly of marine growth and debris?
  • Loose and corroded battery terminals can cause an engine not to start?
  • Through hull valves must be checked and moved monthly?
  • All through hull fittings should be doubled hose clamped? A failed hose clamp can sink a boat.
  • Non-working lights and horn are dangerous and against the law?
  • Low battery fluid greatly decreases the life of a battery?
  • Dock lines that are chaffed are likely to fail?
  • Engine belts should be checked during every oil change?
  • Fluid leaks in the engine room may become costly and are environmental hazards?
  • Marine heads with bad seals could allow seawater to back up into the head and possibly sink the boat?
  • Coupler bolts can vibrate loose and should be properly torqued?
  • Window and deck leaks can cause major damage that may not be visible?
  • Bilge pumps and float switches should be tested frequently?

Proper maintenance will save you thousands of dollars in costly repairs. Breakdowns and system failures out at sea are inconvenient and potentially dangerous. Take the worry out of boating by having your vessel routinely checked by a yacht maintenance professional.
